Best for… friendly community vibes
| Pros of Avian Avenue | Cons of Avian Avenue |
| – kind and long standing community! – Still remains an extremely active and well maintained forum – Lots of sub-forums by species – Great resource of existing information from many years of experienced owners – A reputable tool that all parrot owners have joined or read at some point | – Searching optimization is okay. You won’t always get relevant results – Longer threads can be overwhelming to read – slightly older design – restricted to text and image based engagement – faces the same challenge as all forums, significant duplicate of topics |

| Pros: | Cons |
| – So many adorable photos of parrots immediately on your feed – modern application and UI that is frequently updated – very active and great for real-time feedback – limited organization which means all posts get equal visibility | – no organization, creates a very repetitive experience – search optimization is okay, actually better off using google – quality of advice can vary, also do your own research – members on reddit can be aggressive or make it personal. I’ve seen some pretty nasty things being said. |

YouTube
I don’t think I’ll have to introduce YouTube! In it’s own way Youtube, TikTok, Instagram are all forums of their own kind. It is a way for people to connect on a topic of interest and learn from subject matter experts.
Best for… Visual learners, step by step training and seeing live parrot behavior
| Pros of YouTube: | Cons of YouTube |
| – Very engaging content that ranges from shorts to long form videos – Popular channels like BirdTricks, Parrot Wizard, BluePlanetPets, Marlene McCohen that offer professional insight across multiple species – Great variety of content – entertainment and education – modern application and UI – see video content of parrot behavior live | – One way information, each page or profile only posts about their own experience. No way for other to share on the same topic – No retention of knowledge and searchability across posts. It is not a forum – often showcases the ‘fun’ parrots focused on views and not so much the reality – hard to have detailed discussions or Q&A since engagement is restricted to comments – typically shows one person’s perspective. one search – one video – one person. No |
